Cattle Up until 1996 Brook Farm had a large dairy herd of up to 160 milking head. Total cattle numbers were around 350 head at this point. The dairy herd was sold in June 1996 and since then we have produced dairy heifers for milk production and suckler beef calves which are reared on farm to a final market level. We plan to increase cattle numbers again to try and encourage the improving beef market.
December 2001 The cows came in to their winter housing in mid November after enjoying quite a late stay outside due to the generally mild weather. There have been several healthy calves born over the last few months with two more cows due in the following month. |
